Avery has had a lifetime of experience in working with horses. At age 18, he was starting young horses and colts for different people, ranches and breeding farms all over the country, and rodeoed riding bareback, saddlebronc, and bullriding; qualifying @ the Great Lake Circuit Finals in the PRCA in all three events at different times throughout the years. He also worked for the BLM working with the Mustangs in Wyoming, Idaho, and Colorado. He was in various videos including "The Cowboy Song" for Thin Lizzie, and "Hard Working Man" for Brooks and Dunn. http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/--2166073. {He was the cowboy in the black hat that got hung up on the bull!}. He was a member of The Moingona Hunt Club where he foxhunted, as well as worked Polo horses, and worked on several Northwestern ranches night calving and as a horse hand, also spent time on some feed lots as a farrier and as a pen rider. He started a filly on a colt contract in Virginia that Christie Brinkley bought and got 3rd at the Celebrity Cutting, and started colts for Jack Lawrence on the Cowboy Show that Willie Nelson owned. He also galloped racehorses in Arizona and drove teams at Old Tuscon for Richard Jordan, and in Jackson Hole for Snow King Horse Concessions. Wrangled for Ward Whitman, Bill Scott, and Chancey Wieldon in Jackson Hole and trained Mustangs for outfitters in Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado. Avery did shoeing and trimming on the ranches and in 1995 decided to attend Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School, after which he apprenticed with Robin Honeycutt for a year on the Saddlebreds and Hackney Ponies. Afterwards he worked for Circle S Farrier Service on and off for 3 or 4 yrs. on Western Pleasure and Reining Horses, and on a multitude of lameness problems out of an equine referral clinic in Reynolds, Ia. and also in Lexington, Ky. which also involved him working out of several veterinarian clinics throughout the nation. He taught farrier science at Ellsworth Community College in Ia., and Ogalala Community College in Wounded Knee, S.D, and shod horses for the university in Kirksville, Mo. He also shod eight different world champions of different breeds, ranging from the Saddlebred to the Working Cow Horse, and has done the Congress champion in Western Pleasure and in Halter. He shod Polo horses for the Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota teams, and had the Class A Arabian shows for five years. He was the farrier for the NBHA State Finals in Iowa and Nebraska, and the Circuit Finals horses in the steer wrestling, calf roping, and barrel racing, as well as the NFR steer tripping horse. He shod the High School Rodeo National Champion Barrel horse and Steer Wrestling horse in 2005, and the Olympic Eventing and Dressage horses in North Chicago. In 2006, he fixed the Speed Horse Derby Champion, HiClass La Jolla who arrived lame just 20 minutes before the race for trainer Heath Taylor , and was mentioned in Speedhorse.Magazine. He also shod the Owner and Trainer of the Year's horses in the Thorobred Race at Fair Meadows in Tulsa Oklahoma in 2006, and was the paddock shoer there for two years.
Avery and Angie married in 2006, and they now have Colten Joseph, 4 yrs. and Riley Grace, 2yrs. Angie's grown children, Alicia and James reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Happy Horseshoeing and Training is proud to announce that we are located in Pipe Creek, Texas!
